When the Germans mount an air attack on their quiet
village, fourteen-year-old Agnes and nine-year-old
Ollie are separated from the rest of their family as they
are shuttled to supposed safety with a friend of their
grandfather’s. As weeks turn into months at a Red Cross
refugee camp, the children wonder if they will ever see
their mother, father, and grandfather again. But with
Christmas coming, Agnes does her best to help Ollie hold
on to hope—and soon, the two of them gain a deeper
understanding of the meaning of Christmas.
