Description

Because mortality is a test, we will all experience some dark days that may include grief, illness, disappointment, disillusionment, temptation, confusion, unanswered questions, and pain. The good news is that Jesus Christ promises deliverance from all our mortal suffering and His promises are sure. While we wait for deliverance to come in His time and in His way, Christ’s intimate understanding of our lives, our trials, our hopes, and our heartaches allows Him to perfectly succor, strengthen, and refine us. Speaking from the annual Brigham Young University Easter Conferences in 2021 and 2022, authors Marie C. Hafen, Virginia Hinckley Pearce Cowley, Tyler J.Griffin, John Hilton III, Jan J. Martin, and Jennifer Reeder teach and testify of the power of Christ’s deliverance.

Jan J. Martin is an assistant professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University. She received master's degrees in exercise physiology and early modern history before earning a PhD from the University of York in sixteenth-century English Bible translation, with a focus on early English reformers. Before joining Religious Education at BYU, she taught for seminaries and institutes of religion for five years. Her research interests include early English translations of the Bible; early English reformers such as William Tyndale, Miles Coverdale, and John Frith; the King James translation of the Bible; and the development of the language of English theology.

Alonzo L. Gaskill is a professor of Church history and doctrine. He holds a bachelors degree in philosophy, a masters in theology, and a PhD in biblical studies. Brother Gaskill has taught at Brigham Young University since 2003. Prior to coming to BYU he served in a variety of assignments within the Church Educational System—most recently as the director of the LDS Institute of Religion at Stanford University (1995–2003).
