Description

In this great, eternal work, mothers have carried the torch of faith and family from the beginning. The need for that torch to burn brightly and dispel darkness has never been greater, "writes Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. In this thoughtful book for mothers, Elder and Sister Holland reflect on the crucial role of motherhood in fulfilling the purposes of eternity, as well as the challenges that all mothers experience. Filled with hope and encouragement, their message will resonate with mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and teachers. Concludes Elder Holland, "To all mother sin every circumstance, including those who struggle, I say, 'God bless you. You are doing better than you think you are.'"

Jeffrey R. Holland was set apart as Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in November 2023, after having served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since June 1994. A native of St. George, Utah, he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree and a PhD in American Studies from Yale University. In 1974 he became dean of Religious Education at BYU and two years later was named Church Commissioner of Education. In 1980 he was appointed president of BYU, where he served until he was sustained as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1989. President Holland is the author of several books including For Times of Trouble, Christ and the New Covenant, To My Friends, Witness for His Names, and Our Day Star Rising. He and his late wife, Patricia, have three children and thirteen grandchildren.

Patricia T. Holland attended LDS Business College, Dixie College, and the Juilliard School. She married Jeffrey R. Holland in 1963, and in 1984 she was called as a counselor in the general Young Women presidency, serving with Ardeth Kapp. Patricia has supported her husband through his work and service as president of Brigham Young University, in the First Quorum of the Seventy, and as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. In 2002 Sister Holland received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from LDS Business College for her community, familial, and church service. Patricia and Jeffrey R.
